Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • State of Montana certification as a secondary teacher.
  • Participation in ongoing professional education and training to maintain licensure and current teaching practices.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history check, child/patient/offender abuse registry checks, and reference checks.
  • Employment eligibility verification through E-Verify.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare classrooms and instructional materials for Adult Basic Education courses, including life skills classes and cell study.
  • Teach and supervise adult male inmate students in classroom settings and housing units using competency-based instructional methods.
  • Adapt lessons to changes in class size and students' abilities, strengths, and learning needs.
  • Advise students on available educational courses and programs.
  • Implement learning activities aligned with the assigned curriculum and state standards.
  • Work individually with students to challenge them and support academic growth.
  • Assess student progress by grading assignments, papers, exams, and other coursework.
  • Perform duties safely and professionally in compliance with Department of Corrections, Office of Public Instruction, and Montana State Prison policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to develop additional instructional activities and support student learning.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of job-related experience.
  • Experience in a correctional environment.
